⚡️ Researchers have learned that being romantically in love goes way beyond passion.
You know those SSRI’s that depressed people take? What’s in them? Well, they stand for “selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors.” The idea is to inhibit – stop – the re-absorption back into the body of the serotonin that is produced.
⚡️ Serotonin – don’t ever mistake this – does not give you a “high.” Sorry. Rather, serotonin keeps you even-keeled. It brings the down person up just a wee bit, a tiny bit. Even. Not high.
Interestingly, when a person has OCD, obsessive compulsive disorder (I do not believe in these labels, but need to refer to it in the current example; you’ll see why), they do not have normal amounts of serotonin in their brains.
But guess what?
⚡️ When people are “in” love, they obsess about the person they love – day and night. And – wouldn’t you know it? – researchers have found that just like depressed people, they are missing serotonin.
⚡️ So according to this, being in love is like having Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. (It’s certainly not like being depressed, but we can’t get into brain chemistry right here.)
💫 Who would want that?
Everyone, apparently.
⚡️ Being in love is also happy, joyous, makes life worth living and – connects you deeply to one particular person.
💫 Can we get there?
